Self-acceptance: easier said than done?

'When I accept myself I am freed from the burden of needing you to accept me.'

Oh, yes, you might say, but how do I accept myself? It’s easier said than done, right? I agree, accepting ourselves can be a difficult process and as all kinds of healing journeys, it is a life-long venture really.

Self-acceptance begins with allowing ourselves to be curious about ourselves, our thoughts, feelings, felt senses, actions, choices, behaviours. It begins with allowing ourselves to just notice, observe, register, acknowledge our thoughts, feelings, felt senses, actions, choices, behaviours without judgement and analysis. It begins with starting to be as compassionate and empathic towards ourselves as towards others.

An empathic, genuine and non-judgemental therapist can facilitate this process in a way that results in you feeling free to be your authentic self.
